We’ve known for awhile not what kind of guy we are dealing with in Donald Trump, but this might even be a lower-than-low low for him. He used the death of John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s son Jett to discuss hitting on Preston.
Mother Jones dug up this blog post Trump wrote where he is giving his condolences publicly for teenage Jett’s death, yet he majority of the post he is talking about hitting on Preston.
Most of us remember that the Travolta family was on vacation at the time in 2009, and Jett was found dead in the bathroom. It was stunning news.
So Trump wrote, “I have always respected people who were loyal and faithful – which brings to mind Kelly Preston. A long time ago, before I was married, I met Kelly Preston at a club and worked like hell to try and pick her up. She was beautiful, personable, and definitely had allure. At the time I had no idea she was married to John Travolta.
“In any event, my track record on his subject has always been outstanding, but Kelly wouldn’t give me the time of day. She was very nice, very elegant, but I didn’t have a chance with her, and that was that.
“When I later found out she was married to John, I liked and respected her even more. Some people have values that matter to them, and she is one of them. Her loyalty was unwavering and I have always remembered that about her.
“Being true to someone is very close to being true to yourself. That’s a valuable attribute in today’s world. I’m sure she was a wonderful mother to Jett, and my thoughts are with her and her family after their terrible loss.”
What? Really? This does not belong in a condolence post, about him trying to pick her up one time. And the whole tone of it is absurd. He goes on and on about how she was so loyal because she refused to go out with him because she was married to John Travolta.
In the first place, if you’re married you shouldn’t be agreeing to go out with someone else. It shouldn’t make you loyal to the point that you need to be called out for it. And not for a minute does he seem to even consider the fact that it’s possible she wouldn’t have gone out with him even if she weren’t married. He’s such a catch in his eyes that she was so loyal to stay by lowly John Travolta and not even consider going out with him.
It’s just absurd. And all of it certainly speaks to the type of person that he is. He’s full of himself and considers his misogynistic views of women so important that they need to be discussed in several paragraphs before the one line of condolence that he actually wrote.
